PUBLIC INQUIRY ON THE IMPACT OF BUSINESS OPERATIONS ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLE IN KENYA
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is a Constitutional Commission established in August 2011 with the mandate to promote a culture of human rights in the Republic of Kenya. The Commission’s key mandate is entrenched in Section 8 of the KNCHR Act 2011 (Revised 2012) which details the functions of the Commission including: to promote the protection and observance of human rights in private and public institutions; to monitor, investigate and report on the observance of human rights in all spheres of life in the Republic and to act as the principal organ of State in ensuring compliance with obligations under international and regional treaties and conventions relating to human rights.
The KNCHR intends to conduct a Public Inquiry and Investigative Hearings on The Impact of Business Operations on the Rights of Indigenous People in Kenya (June – August 2024). The Inquiry targets Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Laikipia, Isiolo, Marsarbit, Tana River and Lamu Counties.
